Peter Davies, Mayor of Doncaster, said: "I am delighted to hear that the Rainbow Connection Singers have been named BBC Radio 3 Open Choir Of The Year 2010.
"This is a terrific achievement which brings much kudos to Doncaster, I have seen them recently and they really are first class.
"I wish them the best of luck as they compete for the overall title of Choir Of The Year on 28 November at the Royal Festival Hall."
To the Rainbow Connection Singers Congratulations to all those who were on the winning team at the Birmingham Symphony Hall. To win the BBC Radio 3 Open Choir of the Year Competition is an enormous achievement and I'm very proud of all my fellow Donny Singers. I began my career doing exactly what you are, singing with my friends in and around the Doncaster area. There's nothing beats making music with your mates! Best of luck for the Grand Finale in the Royal Festival Hall on Sunday. Make Doncaster proud! Lesley Garrett CBE
We are in a hotel in bath and we flicked through the tv and radio stations in the hotel. Just heard your choir. Very nice indeed. All the best. Steve and Angela
Dear Paul and Debbie,

I was thilled to bits to get the news of the choir's success - huge congratulations.  You both produce remarkable results across a whole spectrum of acivities,  whether with individuals or ensembles and I'm delighted that LCM gets to play a part.  I'm only sorry that I am not able to visit you more often.  I tend to do longer, overseas tours more now, as I have the time these days.  Anyway, here's hoping I can get to Doncaster before too long.

Onwards and upwards.

With every good wish,

John (Beilby) LCM Senior Examiner
I turned on the radio and was completely spellbound and blown away by your performance, it struck a chord in me somewhere deep. I kept thinking all the way through 'I hope they win'... and you did!
Fantastic arrangement, excellently handled, beautiful. Best wishes, Matthew Leigh Embleton
Saw you guys on Saturday at Birmingham Symphony Hall and you blew us away!!!
Awesome, breathtaking, superb, enchanting, etc, etc.

I was at the choir of the year competition in Birmingham yesterday 06/11/10 and had to drop you an E mail to say how much I enjoyed your performance and what worthy winners you were .

I am an old hat at the competition as both of my daughters have song with the Inverclyde schools choir over the last ten years and this is the first time that I had seen you perform.

Brilliant , well done and all the best for the finals , sorry we wont be there .

Hi,

Just wanted to congratulate you all on your performance at the Prom last night.  I was there because I'm one of the mentors and I enjoyed it very much and thought your group was particularly excellent.  Very good arrangements, terrific singing and well presented.

All the best,

Andrew Skeet.
Paul and Debbie

Firstly may I congratulate the members of Rainbow Connection for their
ever developing sense of professionalism.  I have had the privilege of
hearing the choir perform in a variety of situations over the past three
years, from Doncaster Minster of St. George to the Royal Albert Hall and
in between at events such as the Bentley Bonanza.

Whilst I am no expert I have developed over a lifetime as a youth worker
a realistic understanding and assessment of the potential that young
people have, and how they themselves adapt to a variety of locations and
situations.  In all of my time, my experiences have been largely limited
to performances by Doncaster young adults, but I do know quality when I
hear or see it and there can be no doubt that with the right support,
encouragement and opportunity then there is no ceiling to capability.

I have been so proud to have witnessed just a few short moments of
Rainbow Connection, but sufficient for me to say that they have carried
the name of Doncaster in demonstrating all that is best about the youth
of the Borough.  I have been fortunate to have worked alongside the
likes of John Ellis and your two selves who in your individual ways have
shown that Doncaster is alive with cultural talent.  As a former PE
teacher I have always held the belief that there is a future world
champion in every street, but without opportunity, support, some talent
and ambition then dreams are difficult to realise.

I have also developed a real appreciation for the role of the voluntary
and community sector in identifying and promoting opportunity, and again
Doncaster is blessed with people whose motivation is to assist the
success of others.

Kind regards and best wishes,

Tony Sockett
